Luxury of luxuries, I now have a first draft desk, too, in our converted garage, where I turn my detailed notes into a first draft in longhand. While writing early in the morning, I can look out into the woods to see the deer crossing the yard and the squirrel raiding the fig tree.

Schultz Creek at the edge of our neighborhood park, dry on July...

Schultz Creek at the edge of our neighborhood park, dry on July 4.

LITTLE PLEASURES

“You have a Huck Finn kind of charm.”

I’m flattered, I guess. Huck’s one of my favorites.

But I ain’t about to start smokin’ no corncob pipe.

To mark the beginning of my Tumblr, here’s a pic showing...

To mark the beginning of my Tumblr, here’s a pic showing you how I constantly have my writing desk in view while I sit all day at my day job desk (that gray curve in the foreground). Sometimes I do get over there to use my colored pens.

My imagination works better if I write notes and even a first draft all over a big drawing pad instead of in a notebook or on regular 8 1/2” x 11” sheets. Forget about typing notes—-I type for hours every workday. My nose is usually glued to that big screen on the right, so scribbling away on drawing paper is such a relief!
